Carin León and the gift that surprised The Rolling Stones

By Janet Gómez

Carin León , an icon of regional Mexican music, tells the story of the gift she surprised the British band The Rolling Stones with, almost a year after the unforgettable experience she had at State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

The Sonoran singer, representative of regional Mexican music , was invited as the opening act for the iconic British group, in an experience he himself described as "a dream come true," which was realized thanks to Maestros Joyeros.

On May 7, 2024, Carin León took the stage in his signature style: cowboy boots, a hat, and a black leather outfit. Accompanied by a live band, he performed several of his hits in front of thousands of attendees.

However, what the Sonoran himself did not know is that among the audience, and to his surprise, was Mick Jagger , leader of the British band, who came out of his dressing room especially to listen to part of the presentation.

"Thank God I didn't find out at the time. I found out after we got off (the stage)," Carin León shared in a later interview. After her performance, the two met by chance in one of the stadium's hallways.

“Mick was coming out in the hallway in his little orange suit. He got on his golf cart, but he saw me from a distance and stopped, came up to me, and said, 'Congratulations, your show was great.' I was in shock, I couldn't even speak,” the singer recalled.

Ring: A very special gift for The Rolling Stones

The night of May 7, 2024, will go down as a historic moment in Carin León's career.

As a gesture of gratitude and admiration for the band, León commissioned Maestros Joyeros to create five commemorative rings inspired by the iconic tongue logo, a symbol of The Rolling Stones.

The presentation took place during their visit to Arizona. Three of these rings were given to the band members; León himself kept one, and the remaining one went to his wife. "Take a part of the legend with you," reads the message presented on each personalized ring.

Maestros Joyeros designed this type of ring to pay tribute to the career of the band founded in 1962. According to the singer, the piece represents a blend of respect, celebration, and connection between musical generations.

In an interview forJulio Orozco's podcast , Carin León stated that this moment marked both a personal and professional milestone, and demonstrated how regional Mexican music can resonate on international stages and with diverse audiences.

Carín León mentioned that she "still gets emotional" when she thinks about that unforgettable moment.

The collaboration, although brief, demonstrates the growing reach of the Sonoran artist and the openness of the global music industry to new fusions and proposals.

"They're seeing all the growth. Maybe our music seems exotic and different to them, but I also think there's a connection between my music and rock, country... and that caught their attention," he reflected. Oscar Armando Diaz de Leon , the singer's given name.

It's worth noting that this concert was part of The Rolling Stones' "Hackney Diamonds" tour, which they launched in 2023. Days after this event, it was revealed that Mick Jagger personally congratulated Carin León on her songs, marking a memorable milestone in her career.

The Rolling Stones, the great inspiration for Maestros Joyeros

In response to this friendly encounter, Leon decided to give a gift to the iconic group. To celebrate the day, he commissioned five rings themed around the mouth logo. These were commemorative rings inspired by The Rolling Stones' iconic tongue.

Each ring features a thick, rounded shape, known as a signet ring or chunky, as it's known in the fashion world. Maestros Joyeros rings are framed by white, black, and red diamonds, characteristic of the rock band's iconic logo.

The design of this ring features a 3D relief on the mouth and tongue, which gives greater relevance and originality to the design of the piece. The irreverence of this Gold jewelry served as inspiration for Maestros Joyeros.

This inspiration pays homage to the rock band's influence on other artists, even those from outside their own genre, as is the case with the Sonoran artist. Regarding this, Carin León asserted that "all music today has to do with everything they did, regardless of the genre."

Finally, León mentioned that he "still gets excited" thinking about that unforgettable moment and was even intrigued to see where the Maestros Joyeros rings would be found in a few years.
